The Friends Boarding House Association was incorporated in 1877 in Philadelphia to establish a boarding home for Quakers and others. A home was at first operated at 1623 Filbert Street, and in 1894, it moved to 1708 Race Street. The Association was dissolved in 1913; the establishment of a boarding home under the care of the Quarterly Meeting rendered the continuation of the Friends Boarding House unnecessary. Philadelphia Quarterly Meeting was established in 11mo 1682/83; its first business sessions were held in 1683. At the time of the Separation in Philadelphia Yearly Meeting in 1827, there were two Philadelphia Quarterly Meetings. The Hicksite and Orthodox meeting were reunited in 1955, and several meetings were transferred to the newly formed Haverford Quarterly Meeting.
